Individual Career Counseling

Experienced and extensively trained and educated in career counseling, Barbara Babkirk and Amy Jaffe work with people who want to change some aspect of their work or explore a new direction in their lives. Barbara and Amy are passionate about helping people identify and sustain healthy and satisfying work choices that go beyond work as a source of income.  

Individuals may identify ways to make their current jobs more satisfying, or they may decide on a new plan. Barbara and Amy's approach, which draws from both intuitive and analytical sources, allows individuals to:

• increase clarity about work needs, desires and intentions;

• identify and change attitudes and behaviors that limit work satisfaction;

• create a career transition or imagine possibilities for the next life phase;

• more successfully balance work and family life;

• identify occupation and education opportunities;

• manage the transition from school to work or work to school;

• effectively tap community resources;

• learn strategies for finding or creating work, including résumé writing and interview preparation;

• adjust to new work situations through professional development and mindful performance;

• build self-esteem and the ability to articulate accomplishments;

• gain a useful perspective on past work choices and challenges as well as identify future options through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or other assessment tools.

Outplacement and Relocation Services

Outplacement and relocation services from Heart At Work are tailored to the needs of the individual. We create customized programs for individuals in transition with input from their employer and/or the affected individual, as appropriate. The program may include any combination of the following services:  

• Career assessment including skills and abilities analysis and administration of the Myers Briggs Type Inventory.

• Counseling on career direction.

• Resume and cover letter coaching and document reviews including; editing, design, and CD of final version.

• Creation of a job search strategy and specific tips on the most effective ways to secure job leads and employment.

• Marketplace resources and information on job postings on the internet and locally.

• Interview preparation and salary negotiation coaching.

• Career workshops and job search strategy groups.

Retention Programs from Heart at Work are designed to address the unique retention issues of organizations and their valued employees. Barbara Babkirk and Amy Jaffe are particularly knowledgeable of the life-stages and personal transitions that may affect employee’s performance and commitment to work. Using their awareness of the mid-life and quarter-life transition, they can help avert a career-related crisis. The program may include any combination of the following services:
